The article reports on the findings of a study conducted by the University of San Diego scientists in California led by Jarrod Welch that show that rice yields decline as global warming increases. It shows that growth in rice yields has dropped by about 10% as the daytime minimum temperature increases or the nights get warmer. It also notes that rice plants respire more during warmer nights and thus expend more energy but unable to photosynthesize.
