The article looks at the potential of energy-from-waste (EfW) as a renewable energy source in Great Britain. Professor Matthew Leach said that EfW may contribute to the national energy needs but is not enough to meet the overall demands. Elizabeth McDonnell of the Department of Energy & Climate Change adds that EfW will provide 1% of renewable energy needs. But Michael Warhurst of the Friends of the Earth urges the government to compost and separate residual waste rather than subject them to incineration.
