This article examines the idea of pumping sulphur particles into the atmosphere to mimic the cooling effect of a volcanic eruption which some have proposed as a last-ditch effort to prevent climate change. Research says such an action could cause a catastrophic drought. The sulphur "sunshade" would reduce rainfall and run-off having a disastrous effect on the plant's water cycle.
