The Rijksmuseum Research Library is a private academic art history library whose purpose is preservation. The library contains approx. 450,000 volumes, including around 60,000 auction catalogues, over 500 current periodicals and annual reports and approx. 3,500 discontinued periodicals. The collection attains an average yearly growth of 10,000 books, auction catalogues, and periodicals. The library's collection profile is in line with the various Rijksmuseum collections. The original core of the collection is the history of painting, prints, drawings, the applied arts and sculpture in Western Europe from the Middle Ages to the start of the 20th century. The library pursues a collection policy aimed at comprehensiveness in these areas. Other key areas are the history of photography, iconography, collecting (catalogues of collections), Indian miniatures, Chinese painting and bronzes, Japanese prints, and sculpture from South/South-east Asia. |
